Who are we?

Wealden Wheels is a not-for-profit Community Transport company, providing transport to the member communities in and around Charing, Challock, Egerton, Pluckley and Smarden, with Chilham joining in 2009.

Owned and managed by these communities and staffed largely by volunteers, we aim to bridge the rural transport gap within the villages to the West of Ashford by providing affordable and suitable transport for their activities, whether social, leisure or health inspired. Established with the support of the Parish Councils from these villages and with funding from them and other bodies (see our Grant Funders, here), we aim to enhance the social well-being of the many different community groups in our midst. Our members include those working with children, with youth groups, disabled, elderly, those who are housebound or otherwise socially disadvantaged, as well as those who simply like to go out with like-minded friends to visit places of interest and wish to travel in one vehicle rather than having to take several.

Our membership currently stands at 140 active member groups and families and we include amongst their number several local care homes, two local doctors’ surgeries, a local drop-in centre, children’s youth groups such as brownies, guides, schools and preschools, local churches, groups of seniors and groups of people with physical disabilities who require specialized transport.

We provide transport for social, medical, health and leisure benefits and we are proud to be able to enhance the rural links in this area in this way.

We run 3 vehicles, two of which have been specifically modified for the safe and comfortable transport of disabled passengers. (See our vehicles here).
